Exciting new safety features have been added to a leading Mercedes-Benz model, which will be on display at the Brisbane Truck Show this month.
Mercedes-Benz has started teasing its latest updates that’ll be on display at its Brisbane Truck Show stand this month, with an Actros using five radars set to dominate its space.
A Mercedes-Benz Actros safety upgrade that uses five radars will be presented from May 15, showcasing the brand’s further improved safety for drivers and other road users via a new active brake assist six safety package.
Previously, the Actros already had one radar, which was centrally mounted and worked with a camera installed behind the windscreen. Engineers have now fitted radars on the outer edge of the front bumper and on each side of the cab.
This change now allows for a 270-degree view around the vehicles and the addition of the improved active side guard assist six system, covering an even greater area than before.
This system can even stop the truck when it’s turning left (up to 20km/h) if it detects a hazard, all through the truck’s ability to automatically brake for vehicles or pedestrians if the driver doesn’t respond to warnings of a potential collision.
Daimler Truck has a long history of including the latest active safety features, having first introduced AEBS on its Australian trucks in 2012.
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific president and CEO Daniel Whitehead says the company is prioritising real-world safety, with the new safety features being standard on all Actros models later this year.
“Real world safety comes first, second and third at Daimler Truck,” he says.
“We want to do everything we can to reduce road trauma,” he adds.
Daimler Truck Australia Pacific sales, marketing and operations vice president Andrew Assimo says it was a simple decision to include the best safety features possible in the Actros.
“This is remarkable safety technology and we are thrilled we can include it as a fully-integrated system in the Mercedes-Benz product,” he says.
“Our customers really value the advanced safety features that have always long been a part of the Daimler Truck offering, because nothing is more important than protecting drivers and other road users.”
The new safety package can be seen on the Daimler Truck stand at the Brisbane Truck Show, which runs from May 15 to 18 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
